The New United States Hockey
League (USHL):
The New United States Hockey League (USHL) is the only junior ice hockey league sanctioned by USA Hockey following a merger between the Old USHL & the North American Hockey League
(NAHL). The league consists of 74 active teams located throughout the United States, & is for players between the ages of 16 and 21. The New USHL is strictly free-to-play amateur, allowing former players to compete in NCAA college hockey.
The new USHL will play a 48-game schedule. Following the conclusion of the regular season, 2 teams from each division advance to the playoffs, a two-stage tournament culminating in the USHL Championship (i.e. Clark Cup Finals). The playoffs will usually start on the second week of March and is played between the champions of the Eastern & Western Conferences.
Like other North American sports leagues, The New USHL will not use a “promotion & relegation” system similar to the European soccer leagues. In addition, the New USHL will now play under IIHF rules, with the following exceptions listed on this website.
