The New Federal Prospects
Hockey League (FPHL):
The New Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) is a fan proposal for a new men's professional ice hockey league in North America. It was formed out of a merger between the current Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) & the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). It serves as an unofficial / independent developmental league outside of the NHL. It has now been expanded to 21 teams.
The new FPHL will play a 56-game schedule. Following the conclusion of the regular season, 2 teams from each division advance to the playoffs, a round-robin tournament culminating in the FPHL Championship, which will usually start on the second week of March and is played between the champions & runner-ups of all the 3 divisions. The FPHL will now play under IIHF rules, with the following exceptions listed on this website.
