The New United Hockey League (UHL):
The New United Hockey League (UHL) is a men's professional ice hockey league in North America. Technically a rebrand of the National Hockey League (NHL), it is widely considered to be the premier men's professional ice hockey league in the world. It has been expanded to 32 teams (with 25 teams in the US & 7 in Canada).
The new UHL will play a 74-game schedule. Following the conclusion of the regular season, either 4 or 6 teams from each conference advance to the playoffs, a best-of series tournament culminating in the UHL Championship ( i.e. Stanley Cup or Turner Cup Finals). The playoffs will usually start on the second week of April and is played between the champions of the Eastern & Western Conferences.
Unlike other North American sports leagues, The New UHL may use a “promotion & relegation” system similar to the European soccer leagues. In addition, the New UHL will now play under IIHF rules, with the following exceptions listed on this website.
