The New Canadian Premier League (CPL):
The new Canadian Premier League (CPL) is a professional men's soccer league that was founded in 2018, with the first season being played in 2019. In this revised version, the number of teams has been expanded to 15, with all Canadian MLS & independent USL teams being added. The Canadian Premier League season runs from late April to early November, with the number of games also staying at 28 with no bye weeks except for the 4-week break in July, similar to the modern (now defunct) North American Soccer League (NASL).
The league is structured as a club-based European system, with each club independently owned. The entry fee for each new franchise is approximately $25,000,000.
