The New North American Basketball Leagues (NABL):
The North American Basketball Leagues (NABL) is a professional basketball pyramid (i.e. a set of leagues) in the United States, Canada, & Mexico. Unlike other North American sports leagues, this league will use a “promotion & relegation” system similar to the European soccer leagues.
Combining teams from both the National Basketball Association (NBA), the G-League, the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada), the new ABA, the Current NABL, & the various defunct outdoor leagues, the new NABL is meant to replace the NBA & will play a 76 or 50 game schedule (depending on the level / league). The new professional NABL leagues (played in the fall/winter/spring) will consist of no more than 20 teams at each level of the league pyramid, with 2 conferences of 10 teams each.
Following the conclusion of the regular season, 4 teams from each conference (i.e. 8 teams from each level) advance to the playoffs, a single-elimination tournament culminating in the NABL Championships. The playoffs will usually start on the second week of April and is played between the champions of the Eastern & Western Conferences. The new NABL will play under FIBA Rules with the following exceptions listed on this website.
